When FIEC moved into our new building in Market Harborough, one room was set aside with aspirations for a podcast studio. The Covid-19 pandemic delayed that plan, but I’m happy to announce that the official FIEC podcast has now launched!
The FIEC podcast
In:Dependence is a weekly podcast for church leaders and anyone with an interest in church life. It will cover topics to help leaders of Independent churches lead their churches well in pastoral life, in teaching, in discipling, in evangelism, in governance, and in other important areas.
Episodes will be hosted by FIEC Ministry Team members with guests including other FIEC staff, leaders from FIEC churches, and others from partner organisations.
We hope that it will be a way not only to support and encourage you in church ministry but also to get to know us better so that we can help you at other times. It’ll be chatty and conversational, our aim is – through your earphones or speakers - to bring you into the room with us as we discuss topics that are important and interesting to you.
We also plan to film each episode so you can watch it on the FIEC website or YouTube if you prefer.
Why a podcast?
Everyone loves a podcast, right? The number of listeners in the UK is expected to hit 20 million by 2025 1 which will be nearly one in three of the population.
Yet that means two of three don’t listen to podcasts, and that might include you. So, why are FIEC putting time and effort into such a resource?
Podcasts have been around for a long time but the availability and affordability of the technology to create and publish podcasts has given the medium an added boost over the past five years or so. We wanted to ride the wave to make sure the resources we are producing are as relevant and accessible as possible in today’s culture.
They are ideal for redeeming any dead time you might have in your day: on the commute, whilst travelling to meetings, on a walk or run, whilst washing up. You could make the most of that time by soaking up the experience and expertise featured on In:Dependence.
Podcasts also offer a different way of presenting the resources that we want to offer to church leaders. They give the opportunity to be more nuanced than with something written and to add emphasis where it needs to be – whether through tone of voice or body language. Plus, we hope the conversational tone of the podcast will help you take it in easier and continue the conversation in your own church context.
How to listen
The best way to listen to In:Dependence is to subscribe on your favourite podcast app: it’s available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and others.
You can also subscribe to the FIEC YouTube channel to watch each episode as it is released (click or tap the bell and switch to “All” to receive notifications of new episodes).
We will also publish each episode, with links to podcast apps and YouTube, on the FIEC website where you can find further resources and show notes. Sign up for our weekly and monthly emails to receive updates of this to your inbox.
